Amy is the heart behind McCook Therapy and Wellness, serving as both CEO and a practicing occupational therapist. With a deep passion for helping people live fuller, more independent lives, she’s built a clinic that puts personalized care and community connection at the center of everything.

With over 35 years of experience in occupational therapy, Amy specializes in helping clients regain function and confidence in their daily lives. Her approach is hands-on, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s goals—whether they’re recovering from injury or working toward long-term wellness. Amy has also received specialized training in Shoulder and Hand rehab, Medically Complex disease management such as Cardiopulmonary and Cancer rehab, and is a Master Clinician in Dementia Care.

Amy founded McCook Therapy and Wellness with a vision: to create a space where therapy and fitness come together. As the area’s only clinic with a 24-hour wellness facility, she’s proud to offer a unique path from recovery to lifelong health, supported by a team of skilled therapists and coaches.

Outside the clinic, Amy is a dedicated advocate for inclusive care and rural health access. She’s also a proud mom and grandma, bringing her personal experience and empathy into every aspect of her work.  She enjoys learning, creating, yardwork/gardening, golf, and working out with friends.

Emily is a native to Salem, South Dakota and graduated from McCook Central High School in 2015. She attended the University of South Dakota following for undergraduate and graduate studies. There, she received bachelor’s degrees in psychology and health science and her doctorate in occupational therapy. She values a wholistic, preventative style of healthcare services and believes in a client-centered approach to treatment. Her areas of interest include upper extremity rehab, mental health, productive aging, chronic health management, neurological disorders and conditions, and rural healthcare.

Outside of work, Emily enjoys golfing, gardening, fishing, cooking, watching her favorite sports teams, and spending time with friends and family.

A native of Salem, South Dakota, Amy graduated from Salem High School in 1985. She received her prerequisites at South Dakota State University in Brookings, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree for Occupational Therapy in 1990 from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated Cum Laude from Creighton and has been a practicing licensed Occupational Therapist since 1990.

Amy has experience in several areas including but not limited to Outpatient Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Long Term Care, Home Health, and Pediatrics. Amy has received specialized training in Shoulder and Hand rehab, Medically Complex disease management such as Cardiopulmonary and Cancer rehab, and is a Master Clinician in Dementia Care for those with cognitive decline from Alzheimer’s, Stroke and Head Injuries.

When not helping her clients, Amy enjoys spending time with family and friends, supporting local athletics and community efforts, Shine Dance, crafts, and reading. Amy, her family continue to make Salem their home.
